Working Groups
ORFEUS activities rely heavily on the contributions of participants and are, to a certain degree,
coordinated within four working groups on the subjects of station siting, technical support, mobile
equipment and seismological software.
Working group 1 - Seismograph broadband station and siting standards
This working group is chaired by Josep Vila and maintains an station data base of all permanent and
semi-permanent digital Broad-band (BB) seismograph stations in the European-Mediterranean area.
Other issues are common standards for site, instrumentation and recording equipment; access to broad-band
waveform data; defining an ORFEUS network; encourage "hidden" stations to open their data to the ORFEUS
user community; propose new stations in areas with low BB coverage; support of local and national efforts
to fill existing gaps with official scientific arguments and practical hints.
Working group 2 - Technical support group for broad-band seismometer users
This working group is chaired by Marco Olivieri. The intention of this working group is to gather and disseminate information on broadband seismic equipment (hardware and
software), installation advice and guidelines, maintenance and data handling.
Working group 3 - Mobile (broadband) stations
This working group is chaired by Alex Brisbourne and aims at providing an inventory of mobile instrumentation in Europe
and its surroundings, and experiments in which mobile equipment is used. Deployments of broad-band stations
longer than one year are listed in ORFEUS wg1 on station siting.
Working group 4 - Seismological Software Library
The chair of this working group is Joachim Saul and the aim of the working group is to promote the availability of relevant seismological software and to maintain the Seismological Software Library.
