ORFEUS activities rely heavily on the contributions of participants and are, to a certain degree, coordinated within four working groups on the subjects of station siting, technical support, mobile equipment and seismological software.

Working group 1 - Observatory coordination of broadband data acquisition and data exchange’
Mission: 'Facilitate coordination between seismological networks in and around Europe' Specifically:
- Promote common standards and coordination among seismological networks
- Maintain EuroMed BB station overview with the assistance of the ODC
- Assist organisation of the Observatory coordination workshops
- Coordinate technical assistance for network operators
- Formulate relevant (QC) services that ODC may deliver to data providers
- Maintain archive of technical know-how for network operators

Working group 2 - Technical support group for broad-band seismometer users
This working group has been merged with WG1.

Working group 3 - Mobile (broadband) stations
This working group is chaired by Alex Brisbourne and aims at providing an inventory of mobile instrumentation in Europe and its surroundings, and experiments in which mobile equipment is used. Deployments of broad-band stations longer than one year are listed in ORFEUS wg1 on station siting.

Working group 4 - Seismological Software Library
The chair of this working group is Joachim Saul and the aim of the working group is to promote the availability of relevant seismological software and to maintain the Seismological Software Library.
